$1,815.05

$1,815.05 is my current cost for Scotland-- and I've not stepped out of US soil.

Since 2008, I've taken great care to account for my expenses in detailed excel spreadsheets. All expenses, with the exception of my travels. I've loaded those on my credit card without second thought...Italy, Egypt, Boston, Vegas...I could go on. Now don't get me wrong, while I've accounted for all of my expenses, that doesn't mean I've budgeted or set controls.

My goal is to keep track of every expense in Scotland so I can give myself a real basis for planning/saving for future world adventures.

For me, I think that the preparation for the trip will be more expensive than the actual trip. My cats alone, cost me the equivalent of one week's of accommodation. In my mind, their care is more important to me than my well being, making it a no brainier for me to fork it over. I'm hoping that by keeping track of my expenses for Scotland- I will make smart choices when picking and choosing my route/activities. Earlier, I was seriously contemplating staying in two castles. I will most definitely only be staying in one.

Here's the current breakdown:

Round trip plan ticket = $821
Cat sitting = $210 + more upon return
Camera = $258 (long term investment)
Sleeping bag  = $64 (long term investment)
New clothes = $140
One travel guide book and one pocket size with map = $39
Gluten free power bars (one for every day in a pinch) and snacks for the plane = $37
Deposits on two hostels = $15
Kings Tour pre-booked = $18
Cash to keep on hand for buses, tips, etc = $120
Airport parking for two weeks = $77
